Welcome 2018

Happy Old Year 2017 - It's a wrap!

All I have is gratitude

Jeff Weiner & Everyone @ LinkedIn - Thanks much for all your sweat in building this ever growing & strong community of dedicated professionals. Your 2017 increments were astronomical when it comes to the core value prop. Thank you for building and maintaining this excellent service, (not to forget) with great customer support - empowering everyone on this planet to keep growing professionally.

Food for thought for 2018

LinkedIn - It's your choice whether it's your 2018 resolution→roadmap:
- We have border less travel & trade in the EU- Thanks to European Commission!
(Good luck Great Britain! I hope you can still append the word "Great" after Brexit is done and dusted.)
- We have border less accounts & remittance - thanks to TransferWise!
- We have contact less payment solutions - Thanks to NFC & RFID!

On a high level

Humans from this Cyberspace Era are breaking all barriers - Political, Financial and Technical ones!

I present some use cases to those who are in alignment with my thoughts

- Can LinkedIn or some other Professional PaaS promote an apolitical borderless talent matchmaking system which stops employers in deep pockets of this planet from sending template rejection emails because of these barriers?

- Can a foreign candidate reach the hiring manager of his/her "dream role" directly and virtually pitch to trigger an interest leading to a F2F conversation to analyse mutual interest in working together?

Can You rollout a borderless platform with remote work culture - where it does not matter where You are based and Your potential employer or employee is based - as long as the requirement & the talent to fulfill the requirement are both there and a perfect match?

With the current political scenario it seems like we are taking a step backwards when it comes to freedom of Immigration and Trade for the highly skilled migrant and trade class, unlike what the case was 1 or 2 decade(s) back.

The following is my "core message": - Complex and stringent Immigration Rules and Regulations will always pose to be a threat to any company's growth when it comes to hiring the "best talent" from any part of the globe and eventually the national GDP. - Politicians are running after their personal agenda and Governments are failing to understand that the primary reason why thousands of jobs are still open in the local market is due to shortage of local talent. The "big boys" have the muscle to run an immigration department in-house who handles all the paperwork, however the processing times are painfully slow.
- Gradually, we are witnessing more and more SMEs going 100% (or at least partially) virtual because of these barriers. It's a hack!
- Last but not the least: Many employers (and managers) suffer from this baseless notion that when an employee is WFH he/she is either slacking OR not as productive as opposed to working from office. That's plain and simple orthodox mentality if you are in the software industry.  If you have a slacker in house, that person will be under productive irrespective of the place where their desk is located.

Please have a think - Can we break these political walls and make the world a more connected place?

Wishing You A Happy & Prosperous 2018!

Cheers,
Surath
